Art in Nature

  • 31st March 2026 to 19th April 2026
  • Lanjeth nursery and water gardens, Coombe Rd, Saint Austell PL26 7TL

From 31st March I will be an Artist in Residence with six other women artists from Cornwall at Lanjeth nursery and water gardens. This self-directed Residency will be an opportunity for us to spend time in the beautiful gardens, making work in response to the place. It's an opportunity to step outside my normal daily routine and practice and work somewhere different. To work en plein air, immersed in lush green woodland and next to streams and ponds. It's going to be lovely and I can't wait!

We look forward to meeting visitors, chatting about what we do and hopefully inspiring others to get creative. A few of us are offering workshops during our stay, and we are holding an exhibition of the work we make during the Residency on 18/19 April, with a preview on 17 April from 5-7pm. We are also offering a raffle of original art works in support of Lanjeth's Growing People CIC.

My fellow artists are:

I was at the gardens recently (the first sunny day in a while!) and spent a lovely couple of hours outside drawing with Christina. Watch this space for updates once we get started.

Lanjeth is a village on the outskirts of St Austell, and also home to Lanjeth Gardens. This tranquil 13.5 acre site is part of a natural wetland, and has an illustrious history as a nursery for aquatic plants. It boasts over 100 ponds and a waterlily lake, with walks winding throughout and down into ancient woodland. It is a very special place which is run for the benefit of the local and wider community. Families, walkers, nature enthusiasts and dogs on leads are all very welcome.

You will find a new plant centre, a cafe with the most delicious lunches and light bites, and very friendly welcome from all.

Lanjeth Gardens is currently open to the public from 10am – 4pm Thursday – Sunday. Then seven days a week from Easter weekend.

We will be scattered across the site, with at least one and usually more of us there every day from the beginning of April. Come and find us and say hello, we would love to meet you. There will also be an opportunity to contribute to a collaborative artwork we will be creating with our visitors.
